The Wordsworth Weigh Bridge

Here is the latest kit that I have on offer at the Wordsworth Model Railway website

I've added a Wordsworth backscene & a Wills crane kit to show how it could be used on your layout
The weigh bridge kit comes with the little hut, a section of road surface & the weigh bridge plate itself.

I've put a Wordsworth coal staithes kit in this diorama
By adding some more scenic detailing you can really create a believable atmosphere.

All whats needed in this scene are some figures which would bring it to life.
The road surface can be extended to any size by using the Wordsworth road kit which is also available to download via the website.

Remember all kits are free, except those in the Premium section.

Helmsbridge

Work has been slow on this section of the layout but it's now time to give it a face lift. The rock face was constructed using left over King Span insulating foam when the loft was insulated.

This material is ideal for cutting & carving with a bread knife. The surface was then given a coating of plaster which was also left over from the loft conversion into the model room.

The painting of the first rock face has now been completed & I used a method I found on YouTube, basically it involves using only three colours, yellow ocre, burnt umber & nero black.

The technique is very straight forward in that you start with the yellow ocre & carry out what is known as leopard spotting, you cover half the surface area in this colour, you the do the same with the remaining area using the burnt umber.

A colour wash of the nero black is applied over the full rock face which tones & gives shadow to the final look.

This same method will be used on the left hand rock face once the plaster coating has been applied.

The rock face has just been given the paint treatment & is still wet

A close up inspection showing the detail

Trees & shrubbery have been added for visual effect

Hanging basket liner has been used for the rough grass look.

Swans on the canal complete the visual effect

Tufts of grass add further height

Closer look at the rough grass area

There is still a load more detailing to do in this area but slowly the area is being pulled together into a very effect display. At present I've not glued anything in place as I prefer to complete laying the grass & shrubbery loose until I know I'm 100% happy with the end result.

Only when I'm happy will I glue everything in place with normal PVA glue. I'll post more photo's of this area once I've completed the detail work.

Welcome to the Wordsworth Model Railway Blog.

Wordsworth is a loft based home layout built in 00 gauge, the layout has been designed purely for fun in mind & therefore I run what I like, when I like.

The layout is 3m x 3m square with a 1.5m square operators well in the center, control of the layout is DCC, the unit used is an ESU Ecos 50200 command station.

Bulk of the fleet is steam based on the LNER  / BR liveries of class A3 & A4 locomotives. The layout does have other classes & some other regions being run.

A small diesel fleet comprises of class 03, 08, 20, 27, 31, 37, 40, 55 & 66.

Here are a few pictures showing what's available here at Wordsworth.

Crazy Joe's paddock is one of the funny scenic things you'll spot on my layout.

Wordsworth is kept clean by an army of miniature people, here we see a window cleaner in action

The engine shed looks busy today, looks like some of the Gresley class A4's are at home.

Bulk of the buildings on Wordsworth are of card construction, the vast majority are home designed kits like this warehouse seen here next to the canal.

Here is a fine example of kits designed at home for Wordsworth, this then lead to a spin off for freely available card kits which can be downloaded.
